Where a WhatsApp QR code works
How it works: click-to-chat links
WhatsApp's official click-to-chat link looks like https://wa.me/14155550134?text=Hi — the number in international format without +, spaces or leading zeros, plus an optional message. The QR code stores that link; scanning it opens WhatsApp with a new chat to you.
Tips
- The person scanning needs WhatsApp installed. On a computer, the link opens WhatsApp Web.
- WhatsApp Business users can also set up automatic greeting and away messages so every scan gets a reply.
- Prefer a regular text message? Use the SMS tab in the generator; for calls, see the phone call QR code.
WhatsApp is a trademark of WhatsApp LLC. This tool isn't affiliated with WhatsApp; the chat icon is a generic symbol.
WhatsApp QR code questions
How do I create a WhatsApp QR code?
Enter your number with the country code and an optional message above. We build the official wa.me link and turn it into a QR code you can download.
Does the person need to save my number first?
No. The wa.me link opens a chat with you without saving your number.
Can I use it for WhatsApp Business?
Yes. Use your WhatsApp Business number — the link works the same way.
Is my number stored anywhere?
No. The code is generated in your browser; your number only exists inside the QR code you download.
